Konfiskation af jord og huse i bosættelser
Before the War of 1948, Palestinians owned about 87,5% of the total area ofPalestine (26.323.000 dunums or 26.323 km2), while Jews owned 6,6% of the totallands. The remaining 5,9% was ?state land? as classified by the BritishMandate. (British Government, A Survey of Palestine, 1945-1946).
Since June 1967, the Israeli occupation authorities have expropriated some79% of the WBGS territory. Of these areas, some 44% were taken for ?militarypurposes?, 20% for ?security? reasons, 12% for ?public use? (e.g., ?GreenAreas?), and 12% because the owners were ?absent?. Between the signing ofthe Oslo Agreement in September 1993 until August 2001, over 280.000 dunums(70.000 acres) of land have been confiscated, and 282.000 trees have beenuprooted in the West Bank alone.
Since Oslo agreement 20.371 housing units have been added to the thenexisting 32.750 units, representing an increase of 62%. (Peace Now. Oct. 2001). Israeli built-up areas (settlements, military and industrial facilities) in theWest Bank occupy 106 km2 (2,1% of the area of the West Bank). Palestinianbuilt-up areas occupy 283 km2 (8,5%).
